Hire an apprentice

To hire an apprentice

there are two possibilities:

  • either recruit a candidate directly and then contact our CFA (apprentice training centre) to register the apprentice,
  • or approach the CFA, who will put you in contact with potential candidates.

Starting in March every year, young people register with the CFA and start looking for a host company.

Contacts

What types of company does this concern?

Public sector companies with the 'public apprenticeship contract'.
Any company in the private sector or the non-industrial, non-commercial public sector.
In either case, the company alone makes the final decision on its choice of candidate.

Training

The employer provides complete on-the-job training directly relevant to the desired diploma.
Training is conducted under the responsibility of an Apprentice Master. This person helps the young person learn the skills required for the job, monitors the apprentice's progress in the training course, and works in close contact with the CFA.

Who can be an Apprentice Master?

Any person in the company, whether the head of the company or an employee, who can demonstrate:

  • three years' professional experience and a diploma equivalent to the one aimed for by the apprentice,
  • Or Five years' professional experience relevant to the qualification represented by the diploma

Note: An Apprentice Master who fulfils the conditions can now supervise two apprentices at the same time (decree dated 10 Nov. 2005)

Monitoring progress

Work-linked training requires constant co-ordination between the apprentice, the company, and the CFA. Monitoring the progress of the apprentice's training requires various participants (e.g. company relations manager, training supervisor) and various mechanisms and actions to be implemented:

  • logbook
  • visits to companies by the CFA
  • Evaluation Board meetings
  • Report cards/summaries of marks and assessments
  • Meetings with the Apprentice Masters

Administrative steps to be performed by the employer

  • The contract must be filled in and sent within five days to the consular body to which the company belongs (Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chamber of Trades and Crafts or Agriculture), or directly to the CFA for registration.
  • To be approved, the contract must be accompanied by the following documents: Administrative steps to be performed by the employer
    • - Apprentice training declaration,
    • - CV or employers' certificate as evidence of the Apprentice Master's experience,
    • - Medical certificate issued by the Occupational Physician (if the medical exam has not yet taken place, a photocopy of a letter confirming the date of this exam).
  • Meanwhile, the company must file a DUE (hiring declaration) with the URSSAF.
  • For apprentices who are minors, a special application to waive the regulations concerning use of dangerous machines must be submitted to the DDTEFP.
